Cities in Balance - Promoting Senior Economy in Europe

In the public debate, the ageing of our society is mainly seen as a burden to the social security and health care systems. What is often overlooked is the fact that older people, as a result of their income and wealth as well as their knowledge and skills, also represent an economic resource.

Objective(s): development of regional strategies and transferable and practicable approaches to promote senior citizen's economy in the region in order to improve regional economic growth and job creation.

Main issues:

  • Senior living and barrier-free environment
  • development of special products and services suitable for seniors
  • seniors taking part in education and new media
  • integration of seniors in society in order to strengthen social cohesion
  • "active ageing" and raising awareness of seniors in the city
